What makes it different
The purpose field is not optional, and that is the point.
Every search on this platform carries its own permissible-purpose code and matter reference — not the account, not the session, the individual search. If your account is not credentialed for that purpose against that data class, the search does not run, is not billed, and is still recorded.
Most platforms treat this as a checkbox at signup and a clause in the terms. Here it is in the request path. When a client or a regulator asks why a search happened, you answer with a file.
